Mon BOB made in USA :-)

Hop, je partage avec vous les BOBs que j'ai assemblé (un pour mon épouse et un pour moi). Je mets les liens pour les objets achetés sur le site d'Amazon (aux US) quand je peux.

Les sacs:
Chaque BOB est constitué de deux sacs: Un grand sac pour un adulte et un petit sac attaché au grand pour un enfant et un chien. Pourquoi deux sacs? Parce que:
- Si un adulte doir partir seul, il peut rapidement détacher le petit sac pour réduire le poids.
- Quand les enfants seront assez grand, ils pourront porter le petit sac avec leurs propres affaires et avec le système rush tier c'est facile de porter leur sac quand ils fatiguent.
- Au campement, si une personne a besoin de partir en vadrouille elle peut le faire juste avec le petit sac plutôt que le grand sac encombrant.

Water
Best method: bringing clear (use coffee filter to remove sediments), biologically contaminated but nontoxic water to a rolling boil for one minute will kill all contaminants. If not possible, use tablets/filter. DO NOT store biologically contaminated water in the bladder/canteen unless you plan to treat them with purification tablets. Toxic water (pesticide runoffs, mine tailings, ...) CANNOT be purified with any of these methods (boiling, purification tablets, filtering).

READ THIS BEFORE LEAVING
(A copy of this sheet is included in each backpack)

Chances of survival in the wilderness are slim. Stay in the house if possible. If leaving is absolutely necessary, use a vehicle if available (provides shelter and fast locomotion).

The survival gear is composed of two bags: A large one for an adult and a smaller one attached to it for a child. Each pack will provide all you need for 3 days, and the items needed to survive longer if necessary. There is an inventory of all items and their use in the large bag.

See below for things to pack before you leave. If leaving with a car, pack as much as you can in the vehicle (especially water). Weight will be a concern if you travel on foot. See reverse for weight management suggestions.

DOGS
Each small pack contains food for one dog for three days. If possible, take dogs with you. They cannot survive long on their own. Don’t forget their leashes and choke collars.
If you cannot take the dogs with you, leave plenty of food and water in the house. Prop open the morning room door so they can leave the house. Remove dog food from small backpacks as it will not be needed.

CHILDREN
Pack each child’s favorite toy/blanket. This will help with stress.
Each small pack should contain diapers and food for one child for three days, but double check and add to it as needed. If one adult leaves with both children, aggregate both small packs into one (or attach both small packs to the large one).
Pack clothes (see clothing section below).

MUST HAVE (in addition to everything that is already in the bags)

Water
The large backpack has a hydration pocket that contains a 3-liter bladder (approximately 3 quarts). There also is a one quart plastic canteen attached to the pack. Fill these with water (tap, water heater, or emergency water tanks).

Shelter
Take the tent on this shelf. Tie it to the outside of the backpack (under the compression strap that you will have to losen so the tent fits), between the main compartment and the external pocket.

Safety
Take your favorite handgun and matching ammo (Ziploc bag of ammo and/or magazines on this shelf).

Clothing
Change to season appropriate comfortable outdoor clothing and comfortable walking shoes, preferably waterproof. Avoid cotton if possible as it does not breathe well and stays wet longer. Wear one more layer than appears necessary. Pack a change of clothes and pajamas in the orange “dry bag” in the backpack. Do the same for children.
Pack sunglasses and a hat. Jeff should pack his extra pair of vision glasses.

Hygiene
Each pack contains the basics: soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, toilet paper. Pack anything else you need for personal hygiene.

Communications
Take your cell phone and cell phone charger.

ID
Take your ID, passport, social security card, French “livret de famille”, French consulate registration card. Do the same for the children. Each pack also contains a USB key with scans of all important documents.

Cash
Take emergency cash from safe. Take both small and large denominations.

NICE TO HAVE

Food
Each bag contains survival rations for three days. They do not taste very good, so pack comfort food if possible (Warning! Coffee and alcohol cause dehydration and are not recommended). Pack additional food if you expect to be away from a food source for more than 3 days.

Entertainment
Something to read or play with. Same for the children.

Hunting
Take the .22 rifle and ammo if you can. It is bulky but can be used to hunt small game and as medium range defense.

Miscellaneous
The binoculars are in kitchen’s desk

WEIGHT CONSIDERATIONS

The pack can be heavy. Make sure you use the belt and tighten the buckles to carry weight on your hips. If you carry all the weight on your shoulders you will tire very fast.
If you are unable to carry the pack over long periods of time, consider discarding items. Here are suggestions:
- Machete and tomahawk if you can do without them
- If weather is warm, toe and hand warmers, emergency tent/bag/blankets, poncho liner
- If water source is readily available, carry less water
- Some ammo
- Dry sack and stuff bags (Bags only!! Keep contents!!)
- Maps, survival guide
 

A note of caution
Dehydration and exposure to the elements are the two main cause of death in the wilderness. Stay dry and warm, and drink when thirsty. Do not ration water excessively despite what the SAS survival handbook says if you packed it: your brain cannot function properly without water and you won’t find water without a functional brain.

La chaîne ne sert à rien, elle ne vaut pas un clou comparé à une simple scie pliable ou une bonne scie fil (rares). J'en ai testé plusieurs : la seule chose que tu gagnes à ça, c'est que tu vas avoir chaud en l'utilisant.
Le Tomahawk, c'est pas vraiment destiné à couper du bois : une scie pliante ou une petite hachette fait mieux.
La loupe : passe encore, mais alors ajoute au moins du charcloth pour simplifier l'allumage.
Je pense qu'il manque l'essentiel pour faire du feu : des briquets !

Le matériel de pèche et le fil laiton, t'en es-tu déjà servi ? Je ne sais pas voir si les hameçons sont à hampe plate ou à anneau. Dans le premier cas, faut savoir comment les nouer, sinon ils ne tiendront jamais.

Il y a certe plein de matériel utile, mais au vu des choix que tu as fait, tu n'as pas du t'en servir souvent ! Ton sac doit être tellement lourd, qu'il est quasi impossible de le transporter Que feras-tu si tu le perds ?

Désolé, d'être aussi direct, mais je pense que tu te bases à 100% sur le matériel, alors que si tu es vraiment dans le KK, c'est premièrement ta volonté, ensuite tes connaissances et, à peine en troisième lieu, le matériel qui comptera.

Sors 3 jours avec et fait une trentaine de km à pied, par mauvais temps. Ensuite fait l'inventaire de ce qui est vraiment utile et ce qui t'a réellement manqué. Je pense que tu seras très surpris

C'est vrai que vu comme ça, j'y avais pas pensé. Pour moi, certaines techniques (pêche et collet notamment) coulaient de sources car pour moi, apprises petit.
Heureusement qu'il y a les vieux loups comme Corazon pour venir remettre de l'ordre.

Je me sents moins seul d'un coup...

Corazon, tu as tout à fait raison (merci pour ta réponse!). L'objectif est d'apprendre, ce qui prend du temps, mais je préfère avoir l'équipement maintenant et apprendre petit à petit plutôt qu'apprendre petit à petit et me retrouver dans la panade sans rien parce que j'ai attendu trop longtemps!

Pour la pêche, oui je pratique (on a une rivière bien poissoneuse derrière notre terrain ). Pour les collets pas du tout mais je compre apprendre, de même que le dépecage avec un voisin qui chasse depuis des années. J'ai la chance d'habiter un coin qui regorge de lapins et de cerfs, ça aide plus que quand j'habitais à Paris

Pour le poids, le sac existant est lourd mais je l'ai déjà porté en forêt de nuit sur quelques kilomètres. Bon par contre pour être franc il sera trop lourd pour ma femme... Mais une chose à la fois

Je suis content que tu le prennes comme ça. Le problème avec le matériel : c'est que si tu l'achètes à l'avance sans en connaitre vraiment l'utilité, il y a de forte chance que dès que tu auras commencé à t'en servir, tu en rachèteras du nouveau. On est presque tous passés par là

Essaye de faire l'un ou l'autre stage de survie (je pense qu'au USA il y en a beaucoup). Là tu comprendras mieux tes besoins et tu sauras quoi prendre avec toi.

Je fais de la photo nature et j'ai 3 paires de jumelles : une 8*20, une 10*42 et une 10-15*50. Les deux meilleures sont incontestablement les plus grosses, par contre c'est la petite que je prends 99% du temps avec moi. Tout simplement, parce que je sais la porter tout le temps.

Avec le sac, c'est un peu le même principe.

Je vais te raconter une blague que l'on se fait entre photographes au sujet des ours :

- Comment éviter de te faire tuer par un ours ?
- Tu prends un pote avec toi qui est, soit mal chaussé, soit qui court moins vite que toi.

Cela laisse à réfléchir

C'est pas bête le stage de survie! Je n'y avais pas songé, je vais regarer ce qui se fait dans le coin (déjà si je pouvais suivre un stage de premier soins ça serait bien... A chaque fois que je m'inscris quelque part le cours est annulé faute de participants )
